The pilot project in Mahalapye marked an important early chapter in the broader national vision for solar street lighting. Along a 4 km stretch of road through Xhosa and Parwe wards, 165 advanced solar-powered lighting units were installed.
The equipment used in this project was of the highest technical standard - designed both to meet local requirements and to outperform common specifications across the African continent.

Every component, from the optics to the battery system, was selected for durability, performance, and long-term resilience in challenging conditions.
Yet beyond the technical achievement, the most meaningful part of this experience was the people. The dedication of the local workers, the warm welcome from the municipal authorities, and the strong sense of partnership from the community all made this project truly special.
From the very first night the lights came on, the impact was visible and immediate. Children played safely. Residents walked with confidence. Entire neighborhoods embraced the change.
For BELS Group, these moments remain with us. The images that follow represent what can be achieved, together, as part of a national program built on trust, partnership, and shared success.
